Incoming First-Year Students
Admissions Criteria
Many new high school graduates are admitted to the University to begin their course work before transferring to a degree-granting college, such as the BCAS, in their second year. However, there are three exceptions whereby incoming first-year students can be directly admitted into their degree-granting college:
- Incoming first-year students who are accepted into the Honors College as Arts & Sciences majors are automatically admitted into the Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences.
- Incoming first-year students demonstrating high academic achievement in high school may receive direct admission into the Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences upon application to the university. The academic standards for direct admission are competitive, vary by each BCAS department, and are provided on a separate department criteria list.
- Since the standards for direct admission are selective and determined by each academic department in the college, you can find out more by contacting that department directly or speaking with a BCAS Adviser at (330) 972-7880.
