Fouse, Winfred E. Endowed Scholarship Fund

Winfred E. Fouse, a native of Akron, was a co-founder of the General Tire and Rubber Company. He was the first secretary of the company from its founding in 1915 and played a leading role in its growth and expansion. At various times, he also served as vice president and treasurer, and for many years was a member of the board of directors. He retired from the company in 1958.

At the request of his son, Eugene K. Fouse, BSE '26, The Winfred E. Fouse Endowed Scholarship Fund is to be awarded as part of the Scholarships for Excellence Program, as long as it remains in existence and a priority for The University of Akron. Awards are to be merit-based and used to attract and retain undergraduate students who have demonstrated outstanding academic accomplishments, have superior personal character, and show promise of becoming exemplary citizens. The students may continue to receive these awards throughout their undergraduate years provided they continue to demonstrate academic accomplishments and the high ideals required by the Scholarships for Excellence program. Initial selection and continuation shall be at the discretion of The University of Akron Scholarship Committee.
