Estock, Mark A. Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The Mark A. Estock Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2016 by Roger V. Jones ’83 and Mark A. Schaeffer ’83 in memory of their friend, Mark A. Estock. The men were close friends and roommates while attending The University of Akron.
Mark Estock earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from The University of Akron in 1983 and went on to become a prominent figure in his family’s business, Creative Millwork of Ohio. He eventually became owner, president, and CEO of the company.
Estock was a devoted husband to his wife, Cindy, for 29 years, and a devoted father to their sons, Brian, Scott, Matthew, Christopher, and Andrew. Family and service to his local community were at the center of Estock’s life. He was a lifelong resident of Conneaut, Ohio, and served his community in a variety of ways, including as president of the Buckeye Local School Board, president of the Buckeye Band Boosters, and in various leadership roles with the Boy Scouts of America.
Estock had a passion for life and enjoyed sailing, fishing, and woodworking, including crafting soap box vehicles with his sons who competed in the Northeast Ohio Soap Box Derby. He also had a passion for engineering and The University of Akron and was pleased to see all of his sons attend the University, four of them graduating with degrees in engineering.
This scholarship is intended to honor Estock’s lifelong commitment to providing outstanding educational opportunities to students who, in turn, use their abilities and education to serve their local communities.
The Mark A. Estock Memorial Endowed Scholarship shall be awarded each year to a mechanical engineering student at The University of Akron. Selection of the recipient will be made by the chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department and the associate dean for Undergraduate Studies in the College of Engineering. Selection criteria to be used for awarding this scholarship shall include community involvement, academic achievement, and financial need. The first scholarship will be awarded to a student for the fall 2017 semester.
