Kovach, James and Maureen Endowed Scholarship for the Performing Arts
The James and Maureen Kovach Endowed Scholarship for the Performing Arts was established in January 2022 and replaces a similar annual award that James '58 and Maureen Kovach had created and funded since the 2010-11 academic year.
The James and Maureen Kovach Endowed Scholarship for the Performing Arts assists full- or part-time students earning degrees in theatre, music, or dance at The University of Akron. To be eligible for consideration, students must:
- Be in good academic standing with the University,
- Be entering their junior or senior year,
- Have demonstrated financial need, and
- Submit a brief narrative about themselves and their future goals to their respective school/program.
Eligible candidates will be identified by Scholarship Committees in each school/program and forwarded to the Director of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration, who will make final selections.
The scholarship covers tuition and fees and may be used toward books, as well as on-campus room and board, all or in part. The scholarship is renewable for students who reapply, continue to meet all criteria, and maintain a GPA of 3 .5 or higher. Maximum award per student in one academic year is $2,500. Awards used for expenses other than qualified educational expenses will be reportable and/or taxable to the recipient.
