Chelovitz, Milo E. and Mary Lou Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) Award

The Milo E. and Mary Lou Chelovitz Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) Award formerly called The Milo E. and Mary Lou Chelovitz Award for The University of Akron Student Group -The Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) was established in 2013 and revised in January 2024 to assist student members of the Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) student organization at The University of Akron. The fellowship is the official collegiate campus ministry program under SCOBA (the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas). Its mission is to support college campus fellowships, whose members experience and witness to the Orthodox Christian Church through community life, prayer, service to others, and study of the Faith.

Milo, '60 and Mary Lou, '60 established this fund to provide financial assistance and support spiritually related endeavors of ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· students who wish to enrich their college experience while practicing their faith. Milo and Mary Lou grew up in Northeast Ohio and are practicing members of the Orthodox Christian faith.

The president of OCF can request funds from the award to support the student organization during the current academic year. Funds will be available in the OCF student activity account and may be used for university-approved expenses, which include but are not limited to supplies, services, and travel for conferences.

Requests from the OCF president will be reviewed by the OCF adviser and SOuRCe staff for approval to ensure they include proper information and documentation, as well as alignment with allowable purchases as defined by overall University policy and the RSO Finance Manual.

It is the wish of Mr. Chelovitz that if the OCF is no longer on The University of Akron campus after a period of five years, the endowment will transition into a scholarship. Scholarship recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, be a first-generation student, and be enrolled full-time as at least a thirdsemester or second-year student. Applicants meeting these criteria, and approved by the Office of Student Financial Aid, will receive the scholarship. The available funds will be divided among eligible recipients (up to two per academic year). Continuation of the scholarship requires maintaining a 3.0 GPA and full-time student status.
