Forsythe, Forrest E. Endowed Memorial Scholarship
The Forrest E. Forsythe Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established in 1982 by family and friends, in loving memory of Forrest E. Forsythe of Dubois, Pennsylvania. Originally created to provide tuition assistance for members of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, as Mr. Forsythe was a major force in the reestablishment of Delta Tau Delta on The University of Akron campus. Mr. Forsythe was devoted to the fraternity for many years and was recognized by membership in the Distinguished Service Chapter for his advisory services and his respect for the ideals Delta Tau Delta represents.
The scholarship was revised in October 2020 by Mr. Forsythe’s daughters because the fraternity no longer had a chapter on campus. Mr. Forsythe, who was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College, Gamma '50, passed away in 1982 at the age of 56, leaving his wife, Velma, and his daughters, Leslie and Lynn, who were of college age at that time.
The Forrest E. Forsythe Endowed Memorial Scholarship will provide tuition assistance for undergraduate students who have experienced the hardship of losing a parent or both parents. It is the Forsythe family’s hope that this scholarship provides a measure of comfort to the recipient knowing they are not alone, as well as encouragement to persist in their studies. Students pursuing an undergraduate degree in any major, whether full or part-time status, are eligible for this scholarship. Selection will be made by the University Scholarship Committee.
