Karlin, Dr. Arthur D. Endowed Chair
The Dr. Arthur D. Karlin Endowed Chair was established in 2018 by Mrs. Hildegard Karlin to honor her husband’s legacy and commitment to academia. All his life, Dr. Karlin was an educator imparting his knowledge unstintingly to his students. He wanted students to understand the world they live in and think for themselves. “I teach them everything I know” was his motto.
Dr. Karlin was an emeritus professor of accountancy at The University of Akron, where he taught from 1971 to 1993. He was also responsible for developing ¹ú²ú¾«Æ·’s Masters of Taxation program. After his retirement from ¹ú²ú¾«Æ·, he continued teaching accounting and taxation at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff for another 21 years. Dr. Karlin earned a B.A. from New York University, M.S. from the University of Illinois-Urbana, Ph.D. from the University of Illinois-Urbana, J.D. from The University of Akron (1976), and L.L.M. from New York University.
The holder of The Dr. Arthur D. Karlin Endowed Chair will be selected by the Dean of the College of Business Administration and awarded to a professor of accountancy or taxation who has demonstrated high academic standards.
Distributions from The Dr. Arthur D. Karlin Endowed Chair will be primarily designated to support the chair holder’s salary. Distributions may be applied toward the chair holder’s existing salary and/or used to provide additional compensation. A portion of the annual distributions, no more than 10%, may be allocated to support research and/or travel for the chair holder, or other faculty or students within the department, as determined by the dean.
