Undergraduate Student Government Textbook Award

Undergraduate Student Government Textbook Award was established in 2017 by Undergraduate Student Government at The University of Akron, following a resolution presented by then-USG senators: Dominic Grossi, Nicholas Golina, Abigail Kraft and Abby Watson.

Concerned with the rapidly rising cost of college textbooks across the country (88 percent from 2006 to 2016) and its impact on students at ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· (where 75 percent qualify for financial assistance), the USG senators presented and passed a resolution that established an award to assist deserving ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· students with the purchase of college textbooks.

The Undergraduate Student Government Textbook Award will begin accepting gifts immediately, with a goal of becoming endowed. The number of students who receive assistance and the amount of assistance will vary as funds are available.

To be considered for The Undergraduate Student Government Textbook Award, students must:

  • Be enrolled (full or part time) at The University of Akron
  • Be in good standing with the University, holding a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Have demonstrated financial need
  • Complete an application (available from USG) by May 1 annually

Candidates will be reviewed by a USG committee, with final selection of recipients (and confirmation of financial need) made by the Office of Student Financial Aid.  If in the future a USG committee is unable to review candidates, the application and selection process will be managed in its entirety by the Office of Student Financial Aid.
